On being played by my preschooler...

Avery checked out a book from the library titled "Goldie Locks has Chicken Pox" by Erin Dealey and Hanako Wakiyama. It is a really cute book, with an entertaining, rhyming story line and beautiful, retro illustrations. Avery really likes the book, and, thus, we have read it several times in the few days we have had it.

This morning, Avery got a sheet of dog stickers, stripped down to her skivvies, and proceeded to give herself a major case of the "dog pox" by randomly placing the colorful, round stickers around her tiny, naked body.

She was so sick that she needed the "mouse doctor" (introduced to us in the, above mentioned, book du jour) to come check her out. Enter Momma. So, as I am looking her over--checking for a fever and counting her spots-- Avery declares, "You are supposed to tell me to drink lots of lemonade [coincidentally her favorite drink] and get me some ice cream [also a favorite]." In the midst of my puzzled look, Jeff adds, "She's right...that's what the mouse doctor in the book said was the cure for pox." Well, what the book actually reads is...

"Goldie Locks has chicken pox,
a type of virus," said the doc.
"Give her sodas, ice cream, too;
a nice cool bath will see her through."

...but since Avery has no idea what "sodas" are, she substituted lemonade for the yellow, liquid tonic recommended by the mouse as a remedy for the spotty sickness.

Man, I hate being dooped by a 3 year old. I honestly didn't see that coming...

So, Avery, in her faux-poxed and clothes-less state, enjoyed a glass of lemonade and a bowl of vanilla ice cream.

Luckily, this combo (which sounds rather unappetizing to me!) did, in fact, cure her ailment, allowing her pox to leave her body...and jump over onto her stuffed leopard's fluffy physique. And guess what...her leopard, not-so-surprisingly, needed ice cream, too. And, I bet since he is actually a toy and couldn't really eat the ice cream, Avery would had to have eaten it for him. Just so you know, I didn't fall for that one...
