This past week, we made a quick trip to Oak Island, NC to visit Jeff's Aunt Marcee (a.k.a. Gammy) in her new home and town. Her house is beautiful, and Oak Island is an idyllic little beach town...both are perfectly "Marcee." She is surrounded by wonderful neighbors, has many great friends, and gets to spend quite a bit of time with one of her favorite cousins, Susie, who also has a house on Oak Island. Our Gammy seems so happy with her new life...and we are so happy for her...
On the day we arrived, we made a trip to the beach...just to walk around a bit. We didn't bring anything with us--no towels or bathing suits--because we figured we would only be there for a few minutes.
Avery and Noel started out playing innocently at the water's edge...
...but it didn't take long for them to start getting more...
...and more...
...and more wet!
We eventually just gave up on trying to keep them dry (-ish) and not-so-sandy...
...and let them have their fun.
We had fun, too...
Gammy and her beach...
Jeff and Gammy...(and Gammy's speedo-ed beach boyfriend)...
We headed home after the beautiful sunset...
...and returned the following day...much more prepared!
We boogie boarded...
...and jumped waves...
...until we could boogie and jump no more!*
* Actually, the tide started to come in (or go out?) and the waves became too rough and strong for the kiddos to play in any longer. The undertow would jerk their feet out from under them and pull them out into the water, so it was time to go...
We had such a great visit with Gammy! She was so sweet to Avery and Noel...as usual. They played hide-and-seek (hiding Gammy's silver turtle decoration that Avery fell in love with) for hours each day! Jeff, Marcee and I got in a few of our nighttime chats, and Jeff gave her lots of (long, squeeze-y) hugs...so our trip was a success on all counts. We all enjoyed getting to spend time with our Gammy, again, after a move-caused five-month break**...
** The quick, busy, and crowded family reunion visit doesn't really count toward filling our required Gammy-time quota...
We love you, Gammy...and hope to see you, again, soon!
