St. Nicholas Day...

St. Nicholas Day was not something that I grew up observing.  In fact, I had never even heard of the holiday until Avery came home from preschool last year talking about it.  She told me that children are supposed to leave one of their shoes out (beside the door or under the tree) when they go to bed at night on December 5th, and St. Nicholas (Is he Santa?  Or a Saint?) will leave a little treat for them in their shoes while they are sleeping. So, Avery and Noel each left a shoe out beside our front door (and beside our front door was also under our Christmas tree in our old house), and it worked!  They awoke on December 6th to find shoes filled with treats!  It was like a miniature version of Christmas morning!

I guess celebrating St. Nicholas Day has been added to our growing list of traditions...

...because Avery and Noel remembered to leave their shoes out on the day's eve...

...and St. Nicholas remembered to drop by our house with some goodies!

Another fun, exciting, and magical thing for them to look forward to during the holiday season...
